Does anyone know? I'm looking to buy a laptop and am waiting for that. Anyone know approximately when Dell or HP will start selling their laptops with the Merom processor?

One side question, should I just get a Core Duo laptop, seeing they'll probably be sold dirt cheap?

Probably not for a while because DELL wants to keep everything cheap cheap, the CPU is going to be pretty expensive when it comes out. For example: T7400 at Computer Brain

According to the site KillerNotebooks posted the T7400 is only about 80 cent more then the T2600 which DELL sells in some of it's modells

I think you are confusing what DELL charges you to upgrade, and what they actually pay for the part.

I would guess DELL makes about $100 on that CPU. On something brand new, Intel doesn't have to cut anyone any deals like it would on an end of life CPU like the Core Duo.

They already have them avalible for pre-order. The E1705 with a T7200 starts at about $1125, fully loaded with good graphics about double that.

Yea, pre-order Intel told the system designers that the "release date" was end of Aug.

The date they can actually GET CPU's is Oct.

So if you are ordering a system with a C2D... call them up and make sure you are actually getting the thing sometime in the next 2 months!
