I'm begining an overhaul of my 18 year old TAC Matchless. The thing's in
pretty good shape, but needs a few op-amps & caps replacing.

I'm slightly confused over a few things & can't seem to google up the
required answers, so any help appreciated.

Firstly, I've found a couple of duff opamps in the eq sections of a couple
of channels. The fitted opamps are TL072CP. What's the difference between
TL072CP & CN (which I can pick up locally easily)? Can I fit the TL072CN as
a straight swap? Can anyone recommend an upgrade for these IC's that are a
straight plug & play swap?

Secondly, Is it only electrolytic caps that go bad with age, or am I
looking at replacing some of the paper or bead types too?

Many thanks in advance.

They are both plastic DIP packages. The N has better heat dissipation and
is good at higher temperatures than the cheaper P package.

You will not find any paper caps in a console of that vintage. The
"bead types" are tantalums, which are really electrolytics in disguise.
However, they are more apt to fail rapidly than slowly like aluminums do.

Hi, That's a bogus address, any chance of sending them to TAC(at)
noize.plus.com ?

Thanks a lot!

Be sure to take some measurements of the before and after so you can
see the wonderful benefit of all that work.
