windows xp game set up on lan

i have a very hard time setting up my computer to recognize other computers
on a home network. i take my computer to a friends house and run the wizard
but still am not able to see them on the network or play any games.

i am using the same workgroup name and my ip is set on automatic. what can i
do to make this easier to hook up. my friends computers hook up fine and are
runing windows xp too.
