SB Live 5.1 liveware incompatible with Win XP

Hi, this is my first post here. I just inherited my dad's SB Live 5.1 Platinum card and after installing the card and the front panel extension the card auto detected just fine. When I went to install the software it gave me an error saying the Liveware was outdated and not compatible with Win XP...I installed anyway and got some nasty blue screen action. I uninstalled everything including the drivers and then installed the creative unidriver patch...and it still won't run properly. So, my question is, should I go back, install the old liveware and then the patch on top of it or is there something else that I'm not doing properly? On board sound is disabled by the way.
