I'm looking to buy a laptop (for under $1K) that will be used primarily for playing Sims2 and World of Warcraft (in Windows OS). I don't plan on buying another laptop for many years, so I'd like to get as much upgradability into this purchase too.

I'm thinking of this Acer notebook

AMD Turion 64 X2 (512KB Cache/1.6GHz/ ? FSB)
1GB 533MHz DDR2 RAM
ATI Radeon® Xpress 1100 128 M
4200 RPM hard drive

For just a couple hundred dollars more though, and still (just) under $1K, I could get a Dell E1505 with:

Core 2 Duo T7200 (4MB Cache/2.00GHz/667MHz FSB)
1GB 533MHz DDR2 RAM
ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON® X1300 HyperMemory 128MB
5400 RPM hard drive
plus a few more port bells & whistles, etc.

Will either of these systems give me what I need? Are they overkill? Is there a cheaper way? I don't plan to do much multi-tasking, but it seems non dual core laptops are just as expensive anyway.

Also, I'm currently running Sims2 on a WinXP desktop PC (2.2GHz Athlon 64 3200+/512 MB RAM/ATI Radeon Xpress 200) and it goes pretty slow on average. Would the dual-core laptops with a lower clock speed perform any better? Worse?

Any advice from more experienced folks would be appreciated. Thanks.

The system reqs for Sims2 are:

800 MHz processor or better (2.0 GHz processor or better for a non-T&L capable video card)
256 MB RAM
graphics card with "the more memory the better"

Recommended specs for WoW are:

Intel Pentium® IV 1.5 GHz or AMD XP 1500+ MHz
1024 MB RAM
64 MB 3D graphics card with Hardware Transform and Lighting, such as NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX 5700 class card or above

Better keep it to extremely mild gaming with those.
