My Intel D865PERL mobo has two IEEE 1394a external connectors, and my case (apparently) has a IEEE 1394 front connector. The pin assignments for the mobo are TPA+, TPA-, Ground, Ground, TPB+, TPB-, 12V DC, 12V DC, Key (no pin), and Ground. An integrator's note says the two +12V DC connectors are fused. The cable leading from the case 1394 connector has is marked VP, VG, TPB-, TPB+, TPA-, and TPA+. Can I connect these this case cable to my mobo and get the front firewire connector working? And if so, how?

Sounds like you have the same problem as me:
I have an Asus p4p800 deluxe motherboard (chipset: 865PE + ICH5R) (w/VIA 6307 2xIEEE 1394 ports) and I'm trying to get the firewire motherboard connector to work with the firewire connector on my ThermalTake XaserIII case.

Firewire connector on the MB is :

ROW#1 TPA0- GND TPB0- +12V GND
ROW#2 TPA0+ GND TPB0+ +12V (no pin)

My ThermalTake XaserIII connector has a TPA+,TPA-, GRN - GND, TPB+, TPB-, VP, and VG.

Now matter how you hook the thing up it does not work. Sometimes you even get the video to go out on the PC when you switch some connectors around :)

From what I can tell on the XaserIII case is the firewire connector is attached to some mini circuit board at the top of the case.

Answer from Thermaltake so far was:
>>
VP would go to 12V on #2 while VG would be connected 12V on #1 side FYI.
1) TPA0- GND TPB0- +12V GND
2) TPA0+ GND TPB0+ +12V (no pin)
<<
But this does not work. The firewire device is never detected.

Sure sounds like we have the same problem. I would like to contact my case manufacturer, but i dont know who it is. Bummer. Thanks for the input. I will try to configure my firewire as you did and check the results.
