Well I am looking for a pda that can/has

GPS+maps+maybe audible directions(i figure thats just software except for the gps itself)

a larger screen

posible voice recognition (also I asume thats software)

It will largly be used as a gps in the car but also for dictating\writing lists and things. keeping apointments, audible alarms would be good. then some mp3/vido/pictures and maybe games(I would want good games like FPS RPG RTS blah blah basicly 3d stuff. and duh wifi is needed.

I realy dont know about PDA's at all. I just havent had much interest. I figured just get a lap top but now i think i need a pda.

so what i want to know is good brands, about software and of course the more specific the better thanx in advance!!

edit wuts a palm pilot, palmpc, palmtop? wuts the difference? and by the way, money is not a huge deal but I have to make sure its worth the money ya know?

You have given a very broad range of specifications that I think you might have a hard to impossible time finding in 1 package.

My first thoughts upon reading the entire description is that you are looking for a tablet PC or a UMPC

if you still think you are looking at a PDA, let us know more about how you want this to work. if you are trying to run games, a PDA will need special games formatted especially for it, whether windows based or Palm OS based, just like you would need to buy xbox vs PC software.

also depending on how good you want these games to look, if you are trying to play your PC based RPG/RTS/FPS/etc, you would need a tablet/laptop, and need some good graphics (intel integrated graphics won't cut it in modern games, but if it's starcraft or command & conquer, i think it would do okay)

Ok thanks. I looked ath those I think i like the sony. but the screen res being nonstandart bugged me. and not having 80.11g bugged me. btw the main purpose would be gps. is there good gps programs for windows xp? cuz it basicly uses regular windows xp right?

uhh after looking at prices I think I might just get a laptop. you can get laptop cards right.

I don't know much about gps, i just did a yahoo search for "laptop gps" and came up with a lot of sites that would have different hardware for sale. you would need to do some research on what type of gps might fit your needs. is this just to be used in your vehicle or for hikes, etc.

Driving would be the main purpose, but I would of couse use it for other stuff games the net whatever.
