Just trying to understand how the memory works on my pc.

When I open task manager I see I have (under memory)

In use Available
1.3 GB 6.4 GB

committed Cached
1.3/15.5 GB 2.8 GB

Paged Pool Non Paged Pool
199MB 55.9MB

Where does that 15.5 come from? I know i have 8 GB Ram so not sure what the extra 7.5 GB is.
Also, what is paged pool and is this ok? Anything I can do here to increase memory effectiveness for my PC?

Thanx in advance!

No one answered? :) OK here you go my friend... the extra 7.5 GB IS YOUR PAGE FILE. Normaly win sets this amount in your hard disk to be used , to the amount of ram you got. in your case 8GB

You can disable page file or set a limit so system will have to utilize memory more often. You can do this by system properties > advance > performance options > advanced > Virtual memory after any modification your PC will need to reboot.

Though this also might cause issue with some programs but loading from memory rather than a page file in HDD will be faster obviously.

Let me know if this helps your query.

Thanks
