I was curios, does 24 bit true dvd audio only work with the dvd audio player and only the spdif with power dvd (only dolby digital works then no dts)

or even with regular direct sound is 24 bit happening?

what i am getting at, when you use 4 speakers instead of spdif for power dvd, then its using regular direct sound. so that wouldnt really be a true 24 bit audio would it.. i'm trying to see if theres an audio quality difference between spdif and 4 speaker selection in the audio preferences for powerdvd. its hard to tell as you gotta wait like couple minutes between each as the dvd takes a bit to get running. any idea's?

instant comparison, play spdif 1 second then direct sound the next would be easier to tell. anyhow SPDIF i believe sounds amazing in powerdvd especially in that first animatrox episode. i would just really like to know whast the story with direct sound

The widely touted 24-bit/192kHz capability of the Audigy cards really only applies to DVD-Audio discs, or perhaps recordings that you yourself make at that rate. I think the confusion here is stemming from the term DVD-Audio. DVD-Audio is not the same as the audio that you hear when you play a normal Video DVD. DVD-Audio is an entirely separate format, that consists only of Audio, with some still images, but no video whatsoever. DVD-Audio discs can be encoded at 24bit/192kHz, but only in stereo mode. If the disc is multichannel, there will be a maximum of 24bit/96kHz, which is the same maximum for the audio on regular video DVD's.

So if you are just talking about the audio you hear when you watch a movie on DVD, you're not going to get 24bit/192kHz, because the audio was originally encoded at only 24bit/96kHz. The DAC's on the Audigy 2 will convert the standard DVD stream at 24bit/96kHz and output it through the speaker jacks, or, if you use the SPDIF, it will also output at the same rate. For a more detailed explanation of the varying audio formats on DVD, see:

I noticed dvd audio player uses the hard ware decoder, so i had power dvd use the spdif meaing hardware decoder

thus DTS wont work just dolby, as i watched that first episode of the animatrix the 3d one, that was amazing i never heard it like that/ but thats probably just becuase the audigy 2 is a bit better then the original sb lives,

but yea that demo cd of dvd audio was amazing, those tinging sounds are crisssppp and sharp

this is on my klipsch pro media 4.1, i wouldnt trade these speajers for ANYTHING other then a set of 5.1

i also noticed quality seems way better to , if you turn the treble up 3/4 the way. hehehe

any how i am very satisfied with the bit higher quality in music, and advanced hd is Kick ASS in rainbow 6 ravenshield

id like to see a list of all the games that support advanced HD.
anyhow, its all good, except for the crashing part. some times not often a game will freeze up and i will get this awful screeching sound that i know is the sb live. perhapse the drivers are a bit new still.

=)
