Hi,
I'm sitting here waiting for a radar to back up, as you do...
And after having wiped my eyes dry from laughing myself sick at the
unfortunate Mr. Dorsey and pasteing he's getting off his missus. (hope
there's room in the garage for a bed). (sorry MR.D.). I tripped over to
ebay, and what do I find, only 3 adds for THE SAME Trident series 65
console from 3 different sellers. I'm relatvely new to the ebay thing,
and I'm thinking, "this can't be right".

Can anybody enlighten me as to what may be going on here...

P.S. Does anybody know what the record for the longest D.I.Y. job on a
fitted kicthen is?

Regards.
D.S.

Ours is currently running at nearly 12 years! The new kitchen was
delivered (FLATPACKED) 12 years ago. Its still in the attic. Other bits
slowing getting done in the kitchen to get ready to put kitchen in!

One possibility is that the console really exists, and the seller
asked two of his buddies to list it so that there's some bidding
competition. Another possibility is that the console doesn't exist (at
least not for sale) and someone will win the bid and be out the money.

I don't see how that would work - wouldn't it only serve to dilute the
market and lower the final value?

Without seeing any of the auctions, I would say that either one of the
auctions is real and the other two are fake copies of it (probably run by
zero-feedback scammers who are willing to ship internationally and won't let
you collect in person) or all the auctions are fake copies of a completed
auction for the console (the scammers saw that it went for a lot of money
and copied the listing to try and get a similar price).

It's possible that they're all real auctions, but unlikely if they have the
same pictures and listing text.

Depends on how you interpret auction philosophy at the moment. If
people think there are three people bidding on these consoles they'll
think that it's a hot item and they'd better not lose out. Of course
each one has to bid on the others' listing to make it look good.

Well, there are a lot of copycat auctions out there. Someone sees a
widget up for sale and says "I have one of those that I'm not using.
Maybe I can get some money from it." So they copy the auction, and
link to the same photos. If they get a sale, it was an easy sale. If
they don't, then it's only a couple of minutes lost.

The Story so far...
I recieved an email from ebay today saying the seller has been
suspended from the site.
So there you are...
If it looks too good to be true it's probably bullshit.

Economics 101. More sellers and fixed number of buyers = prices go
down. More buyers and fixed number of sellers = price goes up.

That's why I can never understand these dorks who list 20 of the same
thing at the same time. Well, maybe they were absent or stoned during
Econ. 101.

I do see your point though about shill bidders. But even so, 3 auctions
for the same item will drive the price down in the end. Especially for
larger, more expensive, more specialized items because the number of
potential buyers is very small.
