My computer has an on-board soundcard that doesn't support MIDI (or at
least doesn't have MIDI-playing capabilities). This turns out to be a
problem. To fix this I got a Midisport 2x2 MIDI-USB interface, but for
some reason I
can't get it to work. I've tried re-installing the drivers and checked
the pathways. I can tell its connected and recieving information, yet
still I can't hear any output. The solution that seems most practical
now is to get a program that could processes MIDI in place of hardware,
like a soft-soundcard sort of thing. (In case you can't tell, I don't
know anything about this stuff) Does everyone agree? What program
would you recommend? Thanks.....

Pardon an obvious question but you do have more than just the Midisport
don't you? Meaning you've got it connected to some hardware synthesizer? If
so, what model and are you sure the MIDI cables connecting the two are good
and going from the Midisport's Out to the synth's In? There's usually an A
and B port on these type of units so are you sure you're using the right
port?

Even if you know nothing about audio, you should know something about
MIDI... let's start with the basic's, MIDI stands for Musical
Instrument Data (or digital) Interface.
What this means is that MIDI has no analog properties (at least nothing
that make's since any to you, and me) at all, all it does is help
different sound generating devices to talk to one another in the form
of digital 1's and 0's.
There is no sound or tone's, it's only a format of communication. So
what are you trying to do? Get MIDI to make a sound? I'm very sorry but
that's not what it's for.

What leads you to believe this? Is there not a "Synthisizer"
source in the playback mixer window? Is there not a synth
driver(s) in the devices list?

What operating system?
What sound card?
What application software are you using to play MIDI?

Is it connected to some kind of musical device with MIDI in?

Staggeringly overqualified or not, we can't read your mind
at this distance.

So I have a PC with a Micro-ATX K8MM-ILSR mainboard and an 896HD (also
doesn't support MIDI) as my audio device. The Midisport is connected
to a Korg Microkontrol.
I should've mentioned that I'm not hearing MIDIs play only with this
one Ear Training application that runs directly from CD. I think
that's the crux of the matter. I don't have trouble with hearing MIDI
with Media Player or Reason and such, just with this one CD/program so
maybe it has to do with the source of the file?

What is the other end of the MIDIsport plugged into?
