I plan on buying a laptop in February/March. I plan to spend $1500-2000, I would like to use it for gaming and all. I was wondering about the new technologies coming out such as DDR3, hybrid drive, processors, graphics cards for DX10, and other technologies. Do you believe that DDR3 will be out for laptops at that time? How about quad core? Also, I am fairly new to laptops, I've always dealt with desktops, so what are some good brand names for laptops? Ones that will be within my range.

You should wait for the new Santa Rosa platform to launch, and we'll see what happens then. Personally I think things will move a bit slow. DDR3 800 MHz memory will probably be out then, but DX10 graphics chips might turn up more like summer '07 i think. And Quad Core will probably be much later. Why implement Quad Core when there is no software even supporting Dual Core yet. Quad Core will probably not be very energy efficient, but that is only a guess.
