On my laptop when I play Bicycle Card Games by Microsoft CPU load runs continuously at 100%. This causes my laptop to run too hot.
Why would a game cause 100% cpu load? Other games and programs do not do this.
Is there a way to find out why this game maximizes cpu load?
Is there a way to control how much cpu utilization a program is allowed?

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 8100 with a 1133MHz PIII cpu. The laptop's power management is set at Home/Office Desktop for maximum performance and it runs off AC power 99% of the time.

I'm not familiar with the game you mentioned, but some games are very CPU intensive and use as much of its power it can get.

HMMMMMMMMm
that sucks.
nice laptop BTW.
but yeah...i cant think of what would be doing this.
did you check in the processes list, when you press CTRL ALT DEL, and then click processes tab. see if the card game is using the cpu at 100%
when i have winamp playing an MP3, which i would assume is a bit more complex than playing a card game...but who knows.
just check that out..because it shouldnt be using it 100%.

Without wishing to appear rude or unhelpfull, you've pinpointed the problem yourself. I havn't played this particular game, but is it really so compelling you HAVE to play it? If I posted a question like "When I bang my head repeatedly against a brick wall I get horrendous headaches" what advice do you think I'd get?

I haven't used the game for a year.
Therefore I had no compulsion to play it or bang my head.
What I find odd is a reply to a thread more than a year old.
What pissed me off was after contacting Microsoft about why a relatively simple game required so much cpu power they asked me to alter my Windows Start Up with the msconfig utility to diagnose the problem. Their request corrupted my boot.ini file and I ended up having to reformat my one month old notebook.

I used to run Outlook 2000 for my e-mail client. One day I noticed that my CPU was at 100 percent usage and would stay that way until I logged off. I finally was able to narrow it down to Outlook causing this when you e-mailed a page from Internet Explorer. I switched to OE and a couple of weeks later noticed that there was a Patch for Outlook on the Office site! I guess I wasn't the only one experiencing that anomality.
