I need to replace the ear pads on my 7506's. I remember reading some
time ago that there was a sennheiser pair of replacement cushions that
could replace sony's. Anyone know what particular sennheiser earpad
cushion I need to order? Also I hear the Beyer 250's would make a nice
replacement as well. Any opinions on their cushions?

For what reason are you substituting different cushions?
Are you aware that the OEM parts (by Sony) are readily
available?

I don't know the original poster's reasons, but IMHO the stock Sony's
are comfortable but not at all durable....they wear really easily and
start spewing black flakes before they die. I need to replace the pads
on my 7506's so I'd like to see what advice others have.

I won't give you any advice, but I can report what I've done with mine -
absolutely nothing. Like everyone else, mine started chipping away
little black flakes of the covering when they were about five years old.
By the time they were 10 years old, the black outer layer was
completely gone. Now that they are 15 years old, the inner black foam is
still perfectly intact, as is the light colored foam underneath it.
There has been no further deterioration, and the phones still work like
new, fit like new, sound like new. In fact, they may be slightly MORE
comfortable this way. There may also be a bit more leakage, but that's
not an issue in my usage, and it would be a very small difference anyway.
I know that I could buy replacement pads that would make them perhaps
look better. But frankly, it just hasn't been an issue.
My pads are practically falling off. And there is a tinny like echo
effect going on. So I really need to replace these pads as soon as
possible. Now I am fine with the stock sony pads. But I hear that the
sennheiser has better bass response when modded to the sony 7506's. The
problem is I don't remember where I remember hearing about the
sennheiser cushions. So I am in need of the part number.

Personally, I would not want to add any more bass to the 7506's than
they already have....IMHO they emphasize lows as well as highs too much.
.....but then again if you're using them for listening and not tracking
or mixing purposes then you might want a little more bass. If the
sennheiser cushions are more airtight that could emphasize LF's.
