I have a friend who is looking to spend up to $500 for a laptop. I'm a desktop person and know nothing about laptops. What are the top 3 brands to stick with and what on-line vendors have the best prices for laptops? It will be used for web surfing and some games...nothing hard core.
If your friend is looking for a budget laptop, any one you find is going to be decent for basic music listening, movie watching, web surfing, etc. Celeron M and Sempron processors don't have the power saving features that Pentium Mobile/Core/Core 2/Turion/Turion X2 have, so their battery life isn't as long for a same model laptop but with the better processor.
I think HP would have the best ones for about 500, but you could also check out www.salescircular.com for any given week's ads (best buy, fry's, target, etc) for computer, consumer electronics, etc. Online prices aren't always cheaper than in store prices if you're looking solely on price.
