I was thinking of selling my old Inspiron 8500 notebook (going for about $300 on ebay) and buying a new one. My warranty ran out in may and if it breaks I am screwed. Good idea?
Probably a new dell laptop since this one served me well. I priced out a core 2 duo, 256 meg ati card. 1 gig ram, 80gb hdd etc for around 1k with a 3 year warranty.
I looked at others too but dell usually has decent deals. Anything you can recommend besides dell? I generally use my laptop for movies, gaming and general stuff like word, excel etc. Nothing too crazy Thanks!
HP and Toshiba are good choices as well, though I have more experience with Dell. I would recommend the DV9000 series from HP. Pricing is about the same as the Dell and you can choose between AMD and Intel processors.
The most important part of your purchase will be an extended warranty. If you plan on keeping the laptop longer than a year, most laptop warranty periods, I would highly recommend spending the money. Dell's are great machines, but have issues with motherboards failing, as do others.
