type of dvd burner

to be able to burn the usual dvd videos do i need a DVD-RW or a DVD+/-RW or are they the same thing

If you're burning the usual DVD videos, there's no difference between the + and - formats in terms of picture quality. Just make sure the machine you intend to play the discs supports the particular format. Most of today's players support both formats though.

Just get a dual format drive. They can be found for under $200.
