Your recommendations regarding a dependable portable computer exhibiting:

* A 14 inch screen (1024x768 is the resolution that will be used)
* A Core 2 Duo processor (with P2100+ performance or better)
* A CD-RW/DVD-ROM optical drive
* An 80 GB hard drive
* 2 GB RAM
* A couple of USB 2.0 ports

would be appreciated. I would prefer a built-in power supply but this preference is not a requirement. The operating system that will be used initially is Microsoft Windows XP Professional (my own legal retail copy purchased earlier for another computer).

Thank you.

Try configuring either of these HP laptops to your liking. HP has decent quality and they look good.

DV2000 and V3000

Or configure Dell's E1405. I have experience with Dell laptops and know that they are of decent quality.

Inspiron E1405

Budget?

Since you have a retail copy of XP a barebone might make more sense.
