What should I be looking for in a video editing laptop? My current computer (which is 3 or 4 years old now) is a: amd athlon 2600 w/512mb ram. I can work with it, but I would really like a boost in performance (although a big one is not necessary) and the mobility to edit video on the road/trips. I don't have a whole lot to spend, but what are some laptops to look at under 1500 although closer to 1000 would be nice (the cheaper the better obviously).

I guess my only real requirement, would be to write a dvd. Other than that I am open to opions and suggestions.

thanks

I would say go to newegg.com and look at laptops in your price range. select a few that look good in your eyes and post back with links to get more advice. For video editing I would go with 2 gigs of ram and a dedicated video card. At the very least go to HP's website and configure their 15'' notebook the DV6000 I think. Post back so we can help you more.

A laptop for video editing for me would mean
1) a decently fast processor, intel 7200
2) 2 gigs of ram, atleast 1 minimum
3) a large drive, 100 gigs++ or externals for dumping work, 7200rpm preferred to avoid dropped frames when rendering
4) a large screen resolution, 17" screen or DVI/vga output depending on how you plan to edit. Will you use more than one external monitor?, consider matrox dual head 2go.
5) I would put a dedicated GPU last. Integrated graphics will work fine, and should be adequate for 1 external video display since you're only editing 2-d. If your external displays have a very high resolution or you need power for 3-d effects processing then the minimum of an x1400 / go7400 would be suggested.

You could easily spend closer to 1500 to meet this, but it would be worth it
