what do you mean, you do not have knowledge of these things already.?
are you a tech or do you need to start from scratch and then maybe go for some certifications.?
how much experience do you have already, classroom and real-world.?
or are you just trying to make sure you database is up-to-date.?

it's hard for me to believe that your starting a PC Repair business and yet have to ask such questions.
there has got to be more into it than that..

Hi :)

I own computer shops which do repairs....

There are a LOT more than 10.... as an example you NEED every single version of Windows from XP onwards to 7.... so with 7 as your example, you need Home premium, Professional, and Ultimate and in BOTh 32 bit and 64 bit for each...thats 6 discs ...same for Vista and XP....and they MUST all be legal discs....

Then lots of other diagnostic stuff.....

But as already said, if you dont know this already, go into ANOTHER business....

One final thing,,,,,make sure you have Insurance and Legal cover as sooner or later one of your customers WILL take you to court, even if its not your fault....

All the best Brett :)

I probably phrased my question incorrectly, my bad, i have the necessary tools and software for pc repairs but i would like to know what tools/software other IT Techies are using cos im quiet sure that not every IT Techie uses the exact same tool/software for repairs.

Hi Brett :)  thank you for the advice. I just needed something like a "top 10" list of tools/software used by other IT Techies. I do have my own set of tools and software(ALL LEGAL) but just wanted to know what tools/software IT Techies are using around the world

Thanks again

You don't need to purchase every version of Windows. Actually you can download legal ISOs of Windows 7 at http://www.w7forums.com/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-imag... . The product key (license) is what you actually pay for when buying Windows. Also, just an FYI, every disc of Windows 7 contains every version on it, so to speak. The version is simply dictated by a configuration file on the disc: http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-select-any-edition... .

And to the OP, quad777, here are a few good pieces of software to start your virtual toolbox. :)

SIW - www.gtopala.com - Great system information tool that can tell you what you're working with
DriverPack Solution - http://drp.su - An amazing source for drivers for new installs (or even just updating old drivers)
Advanced SystemCare - http://www.iobit.com/advancedsystemcareper.html - Great all-in-one tool for most computer maintenance tasks
Microsoft Security Essentials - http://windows.microsoft.com/MSE - Fantastic free antivirus solution straight from the big M
Kaspersky Rescue Disk - http://http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk/ - When you need to scan a system that won't boot, etc.
TeamViewer - http://www.teamviewer.com - Best free tool for remote assistance (so simple and easy)
