Just bought some and awaiting delivery. Are they any good? reviews seem to be a little mixed.

Anyone got them or heard them?
Thanks!

I have the Z-340s, same subwoofer and satellites as the Z-640 but 2.1 instead of 5.1.

Great for gaming with plenty of volume with a surprising amount of bass punch.

For music these speakers are only so-so. They are weak on the highs. The strong bass that adds impact to games comes though a little too heavy for music. Not boomy or boxy, just heavy (even with bass control at minumum).

These speakers have their faults but on the whole they are better than they should be for the price. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I just bought the z560 4.1 version. I am a little disapointed in them. They really lack high end. But for 140 bucks you can't complain. I added my old cambridge soundworks satilites and now it sounds pretty good. Got 8 speakers on my desk. I couldn't see going for the 5.1's as the price almost doubled. I was going to send these back. But now that I have hooked up the other speakers I'm changing my mind.

The Z-640 (and Z-340) are lower tier than the Z-560 (Z-680), much lower power and smaller satelites. I knew the former were a little light on the highs but I hadn't heard the same for the Z-560.

Which Cambridge Soundworks do you/did you have? I dumped the original Soundworks (circa 1996) because they had no highs and muddied bass in comparison to the Z-340's. I found these little $40 speakers to be better in every way. Funny too, because I spent over $200 on the Cambridge Soundworks and that was a lot of money back then (still is).

I got CSW around 1998 I think. It says PCworks four point surround.

OK, so inexpensive speakers aren't perfect. They are way better than they were five years ago.

I do find it a bit ironic that you recycled the PCWorks satellites.

If you're happy we're happy.

These satilites have good high end. I think they compliment the logitech's well. They don't sound as good as my home stereo. But pretty good for PC gaming.

Thats cool. When it comes to sound everyone is different. The logitechs get good reviews. Glad you like them.

One thing I noticed about these speakers is get them away from the fan noise of a PC and they sound much better.

Try them on a portable CD player and you will see what I mean. The mids and highs improve considerably.

Of course, that doesn't do us much good since we purchased them for our PCs.

Hmm, yes 5xfans and an exhaust blower. without carting my base unit to another room or hiding under my desk (not an option due to dust) I will have to take your word for it.
