Increased memory.No effect in rendering.Help?

384MB DDR RAM
Win XP

Now increased the RAM to 640 MB.page file is windows managed in all drives.Now when rendering using 3DMAX a messege box is coming ,showing the memory is 240 MB only.What is the reason?However ,can do the rendering,only slow.

First of does all the memory get recognized in the bios?
Usually you can see how much memory is installed during the POST othewise you can enter the bios and somewhere under information you can find it. If its recognized by the bios and not by windows its pretty weird but chances are that your bios only detect a fraction of your memory... If thats the case try swapping the sticks, putting the biggest one in SLot0 and so one try to see wether its a bad stick or if its the conbination of sticks that aint working...
