David Letterman has traded in his 77DX (prop) for something else (prop).
It looks like a U47 FET. What is it actually?

Saw that. Given the penchant to copy anything that looks like a Neumann, it
could be ANYTHING. I was thinking maybe an M 147.

It's there to model for all the infomercials at night. Now they'll all
have to upgrade to Neumann clones.

Usually not. It's more for show. It would comb filter with his lav. It is
wired in, but you'd really hear it when he does the pencil mic thing.

They also have a boom op on the show, just in case.

We have heard in the past that Carson's desk mic was
practical and included in the mix at a very low level
just to pick up things like the pencil trick, etc.

The last 77 had the ribbon removed and a shure mike capsule installed.
