They are greatly improved especially on the ballads. What equipment was
used in the production?

Why does it have to be about equipment? Maybe she got a good voice
coach or producer?

Neve Pre Amp, Brauner Mic or some such... (Akg C-12 Is really nice on
most female vox.) Probably an LA-2A or somthing like that. About 10
grands worth of recording chain anyway. Multi Band compressor on the
vocal (probably automated to bits as well.)
Vocal coaches, brilliant producers,reki guru's.
As the talent increases the job gets easier...

A microphone, a preamp, probably a compressor, maybe some effects, and a
recorder.

Next!

The point of that non-response was that exactly the same gear would
sound completely different in a different room with a different singer
at different settings. Gear has knobs, and moving them changes the way
they sound. Unless you could exactly duplicate those settings, there's
no reason to think that even exactly the same chain would sound even
similar to the way it does on Mimi.

Besides, every recording space sounds different. Every singer sounds
different. Knowing what gear was used on a track is not very useful
information. Listen to the recording, determine which characteristics
you like, and try to emulate them. When you find that a piece of gear
inhibits your ability to achieve that end, you'll know what to look for
in a device that replaces it.

You won't get an answer unless you ask the person who recorded it.
You could hazard a guess by saying Neve etc. Why do you want to know?
Have you got her booked in or something?

I'd heard Mariah records with a Sony C-800G...but, as nearly everyone
here has pointed out, that info & fifty cents will get you a cup of
coffee, *not* any closer to emulating the sound Mariah gets on her
records.

Besides, the OP noted a distinct improvement over (some) previous
recording(s), so to get some useful information it would be good to know
what gear was used for that too.

I will say that the C-800G is currently the favorite mike in the R&B
crowd. It's being used on a lot of performers whom I wouldn't really
use it as _my_ first pick, just because it's fashionable. Whatever.

Isn't it all about fashion? Bling, bling.
