I'm about to purchase a new PC mostly for gaming. The specs so far look like this, Intel 2.6(800) on a P4P800-Deluxe and an ATI9800 Pro. I am very confused though on what type of RAM to buy for this system. I wanted to stick to a brand name like Crosair or Kingston with 512mb and no less than PC3200. Can someone please help me out and let me know if I should buy 3200, 3500, etc.. and if dual channel or single channel ram is the way to go. Will i notice any performance gain with the dual channel ram.
If your not gonna be overclocking just stick with the pc3200.Might wanna try some pc3700 for overclocking.Dual channel refers to the memory slots on the motherboard. You have to have the memory in the correct slots to enable it.(2 sticks).Dual channel helps quite a bit on intel systems.
If you're gonna overclock it all the way you have to think about which RAM you wan't in the system. It's best if you run your CPU and RAM @ 1:1 which means that they both have the same FSB. I'm not talking about the FSB800 that you CPU has - it's quadroupled and it's actualy 200. So is DDR (Double Data Rate) so with no overclocking both should be at 400 which means you need PC3200. When you overclock you raise the FSB so you should also buy the RAM that matches. for example: if you're gonna take the FSB to 250 (250*13=3250MHZ) you're gonna need DDR500 (=PC4000). if you want your FSB at 233 (233*13=3029MHZ) you're gonna need PC3700 and so on... you also have the option of saving on the RAM and not running your system at 1:1 but at 5:4 (at that state you can take DDR400 and run your FSB at 250 and still be stable. 400*5/4=250)
I had a much better usertitle but was caught trying to hack me a better one so I got my current title as a punishment
