We all know that Intel handed AMD their ass on a platter in the whole Core 2 Duo vs Turion X2 affair, at least under Windows XP. I don't want to start a flame war here, and I'm not bashing. I'm an AMD fan and I'm just calling it like I see it.

What I want to know is how do the Core 2 Duo and X2 stack up against one another now that we have Vista 64bit. Did the performance gap close? Did the C2D pull further ahead? Does the X2 spank the C2D under Vista 64? Can someone (hint, hint, THG....) please post a new round of benchmarks? I'm not talking about the 1.0-5.9 Vista readiness score, either. I mean raw performance data from PCmark, sysmark, etc...

On that note, I'd also like to see some REAL laptop benchmarks comparing the various video available on laptops. Looking to the Asus F3 series, you (THG) could hit the (ugh) GMA950, Go 7300, Go 7600 256mb, Go 7600 512mb, and the x1700 256mb ded/256 Hypermem cards all on laptops that are otherwise identical.

There are several lines of notebooks from various vendors where one lineup hits a number of video configurations and it would be nice, for instance, to see how the x1600 256/256, Go 7600 256, Go 7600 512, and the x1700 all compare to one another.

Even on different platforms, as long as we know the core/mem clocks and memory bus width, we can normalize the video scores. Set up a tabe that has the raw scores for each laptop along with its normalized score and we'd have a really nice comparison tool.

I'm in the market for a new laptop, and I'll be stuck with whatever I pick for the next year or two as my only computer, so I want all the information I can get to make the best choice - and I know that I can't possibly be the only one in this position.
