Howdy,
I just purchased my first DVD Burner. It’s the Optorite DD0203. My question is when I burn DVD+RW 4.7GB DVDS. I can only burn up to 4500MB or 4.39GB. Is this normal? If so why not list the correct burning size and what is the lost 300mb used for?
My burning Program is Nero 6.0.0.11. (I can’t use the software that came with the drive it makes my computer restart, its called B’s Recorder Gold5 and is made my BHA. That is with and without the updates.)

Some space should be taken up by the file structure, but not 300MB worth. Is that little bar across the bottom reading 4.39GB or is that all it will let you copy over to the left side of the screen?

well on the bottom of the screen there is the disc meter. And even if I put 4501MB in there nero will say i need to insert a disc with more space on it.

i used nero 6's cd-dvd speed and ckeck the disk and it detects the unused 300mbs. So i wonder if maybe i need to full format my dvd+rw before i can use them fully.

I have used nero6 and a few others...all give me the same issue, only allowing 4,450-4,500Mb. if you look at dvdrhelp.com you will see that this is the norm i think. it is dissapointing though as i got my burner yesterday only to find this out.

hey if any of you use Nero 6 burn a full 4.7 GB DVD and when its done look at the surface using Nero's CD-DVD speed utility (Extra -> scan disk). if you look at the graphic that it shows you, there is still more space left on the disc! The dark grey shows used clusters and lite grey shows unused. What do you supposed this means?
