XP INTERNET EXPLORER SHUTS DOWN

Can anyone help me, i have recentley installed a new modem on my system. now the modem went on fine using xp's drivers. it will dial up and connect. but when i try to open internet explorer, it just pop's up and then closes back down. i have tried using both xp's and the modem's drivers. but unfortunatley still does the same thing.
ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT!!!!

yeah it still does it then!!! this is really doing my head in. i just don't want to format my drive to solove it.
