I would like to make a home server for playing back MP3's and ripped DVD movies. I was thinking of have 4 to 6 harddrives in its own server case and a HTPC in two other rooms.

I am a computer technicain but not a network technician. What is the easiest way to make a server using what hardware exactly. Powersupply. motherboard. videocard. raid controller. Was thinking of a Raid array thats fast and redundant. Raid5?

help is greatly appreciated!

if its just going to serve mp3 and divx (i assume) files you are making this WAY to complicated. all you need is a low end computer. if more than 2 people are going to be reading from the thing you could make use of a striped volume. but if not your wasting your time and money for nothing.
