Ok...Not that I don't know squat about da ol pewter....just that I don't really burn anything besides music and games. So, here's the query..."Why is it that 52X burners cost LESS than 48X ones? Just curious. I was planning on upgrading to a new burner and throwing my old 40X into a diff. computer. I just don't want to get 'burned' (no pun intended) on a purchase of my next CD-RW. I will go Lite-On because that is all I've ever owned...but I wanna know if I should go 52 or 48. Suggestions and an answer to the first part of my question?

Get LiteOn 52x/32x/52x

52x burners are cheaper because they're currently being produced, and 48x burners are out of production

Production is indeed a factor if both drives are from the same manufacturer and are similar in structure and design.

Componet quality is a factor also. For example, if you shop for stereo systems you will find some very expensive and very decent 80-watt systems that sound great. On the other hand you will also find less expensive 200-watt systems that dont sound as good. And that too often raises an eyebrow of suspicion when the stereo that is twice as powerful costs half as much.
