My new laptop can't find my display, help!

Late last year I bought a HP DV9040us laptop it included Windows XP MCE and I've been using the vga out on it to connect to my tv and use my TV to watch movies and tv shows via my laptop. But as of a couple of weeks ago it stopped using my laptop display (it boots up with nothing on my laptop screen) and automatically is booting up using the vga out, so I have to hook it up to my tv (or a monitor) to use the laptop. I've tried to recover and completely reinstalled the OS (formating the drive on my laptop even) for some reason sometimes I can find the laptop display in the video properties and sometimes I can't, it's like it doesn't even exsist. Anyone have any clue why this might be happening? Here is a link to my lappy:
