I will be replacing my first gen Dell XPS laptop with another desktop replacement this year. I am torn between the following, but will consider others:
Or another brand if someone suggests it. I do a LOT of stuff including running virtual machines, testing software and i generally have 5 or 6 programs running at all times (outlook 2007, Virtual PC 2007, IE7, Access 2007, and a few others)
I need at least 2gb of ram and atleast a 256mb dedicated nvidia video card (I don't like the way ATI software handles multiple monitors). A 17" monitor is a must and widescreen is preferred. 2ghz or higher Core 2 Duo (though i would go with a comprable X64 processor), 100gb or better drive at 5400rpm or higher (7200 would be great). The system should come with Vista Ultimate.
I would like to keep it under $2600 including a 3 year warranty with accident coverage, and am willing to purchase aditional ram to get to 2gb. Thanks in advance!
You might want to look at something a little more powerful and customizable for your needs. By customizable, I mean options that suit your needs that you can discuss with someone who knows what the hec they're talking about.
By The Quasimo series with their dual lamp LCD's are going to eat up just as much battery as a RAID0 hard drive system, which jusging by the VM part of your post, I would say you would want.
