I've got a Malibal Number 9 Laptop which sports a 915P + ICH6 motherboard and is currently running a Pentium 4 670 3.8 Ghz.
I'd like to put a dual-core processor in, preferably a core duo. The front side bus for the P4 is 800Mhz so theoretically shouldn't be a problem for the 667 Mhz of the Core duo to run as well?
Unfortunately, it is unlikely you can use a Core Duo (yonah) nor a Core 2 Duo (merom ) because of incompatibility with Socket LGA 775 to Socket M (click wiki link).
If it is cost feasible, finding a Mobile Pentium 4 (link) would improve your battery runtime, but the Prescott (Netburst architecture) overall is a poor choice for mobility. If you do this check for pin compatibility ( I am not familiar with Pentium 4 mobile's) and the Bios revisions available.
