If you download the most recent drivers for an Audigy card and have them ready to go when you install the card, would the original installation disk still be required to use the card?
With audigy 2 when you download updates it looks at the divers you have and only installs what you need. But I have not tried it without installing the disc first. It would suck if you lost your disc though. I can't imagine them not letting you use your card because you lost your disc. So I would say no you don't need the disk.
These specs are here so I don't have to repeat them. P4 2.4c @ 3.0 ASUS P4P800 dx Geil pc4000 2.5,3,3,6 250FSB 1:1 Radeon 9500 non-pro 2 Maxtor 60gig 7200rpm 8mb cach in raid 0 SB Audigy 2
In the past I've gotten away without installing the old drivers first from the CD. And as far as I know they've never made it practice to force you to install old drivers first...
of course the rest of their bloatware requires the cd.
