My pictures folder disappeared while being transferred to new laptop

The folder 'My Pictures" disappeared while everything was being transferred from one laptop to another. Where can I look for it on the old laptop? or the new laptop?

Do you have file names for the images? try searching for them. If not i am sure there is some sort of archive folder but you may need some one from the OS department

thanks for replying and your suggestion. Unfortunately don't have any file names (what a dummy) on record; can you tell me what is OS Department? Anyway, it's reassuring to be told that there is an archive somewhere. Just a matter of finding it.
