I know this is a very basic question but any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Is there any inexpensive (<$250) software w/MIDI & Audio that runs well
on Notebook PC's and creates Protools compatible files?

I want to do pre-production on a PC laptop by creating MIDI and some
audio files, then go into a Protools studio for vocals, effects &
mixing.

I already have access to an RME Multiface with Cardbus adapter and a PC
notebook so I don't want to buy a new interface or a Mac unless it's
necessary.

Lastly, can Cubase SX files be converted to Protools?

Thanks
Dkid

I don't know about the midi portion, but just about any DAW (cubase
included) has an export feature that willa llow you to export each
track as an individual .wav file. Then you can import them in pro
tools.

I was hoping to convert the whole project at once? Without automation
and special formating.
Hopefully somebody knows of software that works well on PC and creates
Protools Files using RME interfaces?

Almost all the major PC sequencer/audio applications will import and export
OMF files which include what you're looking for. The only problem there is
that ProTools requires an additional program called Digitranslator which
will convert those OMF files to PT files. The cost of Digitranslator is
about $500.
