A budy of mine just got back from iraq, and came home with an averatec laptop. It appears to be a US company. I was wondering if anyone had ever had any expereince with them. It seems like a hell of a deal.

AMD Turion 64 MT-32 (1.8GHz)
Microsoft Windows XP Home (I would replace with Pro)
12.1" WXGA LCD
Dual Layer DVD Burner
80 GB HDD
1GB DDR 333 Ram
1 PC Express slot
4-in-1 Card reader/3xUSB 2.0/IEEE 1394 Firewire/VGA/MICin/LINin/Headphone
Phoenix Firstware Recover Pro
Zone Alarm
Adobe Acrobat Reader
Cyberlink DVD Solution 4
Wirless LAN(b/g)
Built in 10/100Mb/s lan
Built in 56Kb/s modem

Price: $677.99

Is this a pretty good deal or would I just be getting screwed

It seems like a great deal because it uses an old single core processor. I think you could find better stuff out there and not sacrifice too much money.

I just found one on tigerdirect.com. Same company, but uses a dual core proc for only $699. Averatec N2370. take note though, it's refurbished.

I just got a trade in from an old customer of one of those except it is a Turion MT-40 2.2Ghz, 80 Gig 7,200 rpm, 2 Gigs RAM, 108 G+ wireless and I need to send it in to have a power plug replaced.

If I could get $699 for it, I'd be doing cartwheels!
