Hi
i'm going to buy a new pair of heaphones, both for listening and for
monitoring
i'm oriented towards Grado sr60 (but i don't think i've seen any here in
Italy) or AKG 141.
I know there's a 600 ohm and a 55 ohm version, and, since i don't need
to connect many in parallel, i'm going for the 55 ohm, because it should
be easier to drive ... am I right?
do you have any suggestion for other headphones in this price range?
another question ...
i have an old pair of Pioneer se550, anyone knows the impedance of these
headphones? I couldn't find it on the net, nor could find the manual at
home. I'd like to know because i'm building the amp myself ...

Grado's SR-series cans are great for listening, but too colored for
monitoring. Say what you will about them, but Sony's 7506 headphones are
THE STANDARD for studio, live sound crews and field recording engineers
all around the world. They also sound great for listening and have
pretty good isolation (in case you decide to use them as tracking
phones). Their only major coloration is emphasized super lows and super
highs, which I actually find to be helpful while mixing if you learn to
compensate for it, because it helps you shape those frequency bands
which can often make a mix muddy or shrill really quick.
Anyhow, get the MDR-7506's you won't be dissapointed.

Try Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro/80. My jaw dropped when I heard them. Clarity is great, and the bass is to die for.
Very transparent, too. Love'em so much I got two pairs. $199 or less at your local Guitar Center. Make sure
you get the 80 ohm version so that you can plug them into anything you own.
