Help I did something stupid

When you turn on the machine normally with no boot disk installed what exactly happens, what kind of prompts or error messages come up, when it stops responding?

This is what happens and I have tried to boot with the ME CD but it does not work:

Starting Windows 98...

This version of windows runs only on MS-DOS 8.00.

Try This;
To boot from the ME CD you have to change the CMOS setting to boot from the CD ROM drive as the 1st boot device or it will not boot from it. Most computers allow you to enter the CMOS by holding down the delete key on startup some of the older ones require holding down F2. In the CMOS only change the boot sequence and get back out of it. Restart the computer with the ME CD in the CD ROM drive and watch as it comes up when it gets to the option screen select option #2 thats a restore option, option #1 will format the hardrive, you only have about 30 seconds to make this choice between #1 and #2 because its an automatic install so don't leave the machine during this process.
