CDRW DVDRW limited rewrites

I've just heard from a friend that CDRW and DVDRW are limited rewrites. Something about the Directory blocks are filled up, then the DISC is useless. Is this true? And how many times can you burn a disc before it becomes useless?

That is true, but the limit (at least for CD-RWs) is 1000 rewrites, and the disk will be scratched as hell (due to every day wear and tear) before you reach that limit.
