Anyone have any favorite used audio dealers? I need a low-hours ADAT LX20
for a special project (would rather have an LX rather than XT to avoid
having to re-do cabling, too)..Would rather NOT use Ebay if I can help it.

Given the low resale value of an XT20 ADAT, most dealers who took one
in on trade would probalby post it on eBay rather than trying to sell
it out of their store. It woudn't be worth the storage space.

You might post a "wanted" notice on the bulletin board of your local
music store, tell the audio salesman there that you're looking for
one, and that if someone wants to trade one it, to call you. Also,
if your city has an "arts" free newspaper, check the classifieds in
there.

I dislike eBay, too, but if I needed an ADAT, that's probably where
I'd go, knowing that there will be plenty of them available, the price
will have been pretty well established, and if you buy with a credit
card (even via PayPay) you have some leverage against the seller if
it's DOA or seriously far from the represented condition.

I'm pretty sure that the XT20 had all the same
connectors on it that the LX20 has plus the ELCO-56.

I thought the LX20 was the one with RCA connectors rather than 1/4 inch TRS?

The XT has better converters than the LX (sounds better), but if this
is a non-critical application and he already has RCA cables, it
probably doesn't matter.

Where are you? Here in NYC Craig's List rules. No shipping, and if
there's a problem with it you just go back to his place and beat him to
a pulp.

The original 'vintage' black-face was the only ADAT
machine with 1/4" connectors. They were TS unbalanced
-10dB.

The XT, XT20 and LX20 used RCA jacks for the unbalanced -10 IO.

Balanced IO (+4dB) on the black-face, XT and XT20
is through the ELCO-56.

There may be units out there that have been modified ...

I just bought some gear from Rogue Music in NYC. Good folks, good
deal, good reputation AFAIK. Don't know if they have any ADATs, here's
the link: www.roguemusic.com

I've also had excellent experience with used equipment from
AudioClassics (www.audioclassics.com), not sure if they get involved
with pro audio tape decks though.
