Ok i have been thinking about getting a laptop , been looking at the A64 ones . Not worried about weight or battery life , Whatch think . Other choice would be the P4 2.something .

Get a 3400+ with a new fangled 9800 and a big display. Battery life will be a respectable 20 minutes (hell, i'll respect it.) You could always get a p4 but thats just not as cool.

A64s are also more power saving than P4s anyways.
And the PowerNow! technology from AMD is supposedly superior to Intel's SpeedStep.
Try to score at least a 9700. The 9800, I dunno if it's even released (considering the rare availability of any X800), and it would likely cost WAY too much.
Consider at least 512MB RAM, and if you CAN, 1GB. Laptops are close to giving actual desktop PC performance nowadays. The HDD speed is the biggest whore though.
Battery life, well, depends on how you use it and how often you run it unplugged. You don't look like you travel much, especially in a plane to justify unplugged usage. You should be quite fine then.
