I was wondering if the computer DVD drives are coded to play only regional DVD like DVD players. It would nice to know if I could play Japanese anime DVD which aren't coded for region 1. Also can they play PAL and NTSC too? Ty alot in advance.

They are region coded. You can set the region, and change it a few times, after which, it locks to on region (the last selected, or something).

You can download region free firmware for DVD drives.

You also need to make the player software region free.
