I find that when recording in Cakewalk Pro Audio 8, the levels are very low
compared to what I run Soundforge with exact same Line In and Record Level
settings on the system. Both set to record mono using the L channel going
into the Line-In to an Audigy2.
When it's set up to where I get a nice fat signal with Soundforge, the level
meter in the console view in Cakewalk is barely registering and the
resulting recording reflects this.

Are you using different drivers (possibly MME in Cakewalk and WDM in
Soundforge)?
