I'm looking for a pair of active studio monitors.
I already have 4 fantastic pairs in my studio but I need a low cost small
monitor to take around when I make live recordings. I will use it to listen
to the rehersals recording and make the band hear what it is like. I will
also use it to check what's on the bass frequencies because I do not want to
rely on headphones only.
I am giving a look at what is on the market. I see Spirit, Behringer,
Wharfdale, Alesis, Event, Fostex and many more....
My budget is 200-400$ used on eBay...
Any suggestion on monitors you have heard?
Thanks

I'd look at the SLS stuff, since you will want very narrow dispersion in
a field monitor.

Check out the KRK RP-5. Excellent monitors within your price range.

I got the JBL LSRP25s. Well powered, seem pretty hard to blow up, sound
pretty good and very important for carrying around: have a very strong
grill to protect the woofer and a bar protecting the tweet. Downside is
that they are pretty heavy for their size ( you can get a nice carrying
case for the pair with built in wheels). Bass isn't great as they are
small, but it's not terrible. I got the pair for $200 on ebay (one was
supposedly broken, but it took almost nothing to get it running again).
I bought some M-audio's. They are the "8" version of what ever the
lable is - can't see them right now. There is a smaller version that is
also very good. Mine cost $299 and are worth every penny. I have quite
a few monitors and I never have liked active ones really but these are
making me happy. Try a/b ing some of these ag a GC and see what you
think before you buy anything blind.
