Hello,

XP1800
KT7A-Raid KT133A
IBM HDD
Gf2Ultra
Live 5.1 gamer
3Com EarthLink
256Ram

Will be getting:

KR7A-Raid133
WD 1200 HDD
Have 256Mb 2400 DDR Corsair

For about 2 weeks Win 98 hasn't been on it's best behavior. So yesterday I used an Image and got my windows back up to pare. Also, decided to move my sound card and not (Allow LPT Interrupt Sharing) and disable the Raid Controller and USB support to try to help the change.

Now it's a wonderful word, it's stable fast and all that. I would like to say win98 does good for me for about a month, until I start having problems, but because chances are pretty good that I might have been doing some tweaks (Adding and Changing things) it's hard for me to see just where the problem started, or what caused it.

So win98 is great for me, but in due time it will fall apart again and I will have to use an Image to get it back on its feet. So a half hour if that to get it back up to pare, and any aggravation before.

That is my situation. Win98 and me don't live a perfect life, and we fight sometime, but we still love each other, hehe

When I play UT on line and get my butt kick, there are two things I want to do. 1. Have a Fit.
2. Get out my credit card and make some upgrades.

The fps are dropping using my card, and I'm not one to lower the settings. I'm having a hard time waiting for new video cards to come out, and I'm considering the gf4-4600. Also, am considering WinXP. I don't know if that will be a upgrade/downgrade/ or just a pain in the butt. The problems I have now I can solve them. With WinXP I feel I could have problems from the very start. Even after I get it working, feel what ever I add software/hardware that I could be back to having problems. Looking for drivers and the bottom line either I will or will not get the software/hardware to work. It seems each upgrade I make after could cause a challenge. And all this for stability and better memory management. I would like to find out if XP is all that.

So is WinXP for me, what about paring it up with a gf4? I see a few problems with the gf4 and XP. The ones I notice or remember are with the Gainward card. Is XP having problems with all gf4 or just Gainward?

I want to get a new video card, considering WinXP, thinking about a new sound card and drivers are a must.

Feel Free

Hey Baby, want to play with my computer?

If you're thinking of moving up to WinXP, check out this deal from Passwird.com (Lockergnome mentioned it too, but I can't find where they did).

This DOES work. I did this back when XP Pro just came out and they were giving away free lava lamps with it. Technically, you must work for a business that is a "Certified MS Partner" in order to take advantage of the deal. Click here and register whatever company name you can come up with (I used Passwird Deals last time). Like last time, they say that you are buying a not-for-resale copy. That is a joke, I receieved a full retail copy of XP Pro and sold it on eBay for $140. After registering your company to be a certified partner, click the following link. MICROSOFT

Update - I just received my email confirmation. (I ordered at 1:45am pst)

Wait, I found a slight mention in a Lockergnome newsletter, but I'm not sure if this is the right one. It's near the beginning:
http://www.lockergnome.com/issues/techspecialist/20011127.html

So, I hope that'll help in your move (if you choose to do so). I'm not sure how to reply about your other problems yet. I'll check back, though. See ya!

Thanks for the info. on the deal, hmm sounds a little risky, or more trouble then just getting XP. I'm thinking of ordering a video card and just go ahead and get XP with it. I'll have enough hardware to put another computer together, so I can fool around with XP.

P.S Any advise, links to switching to XP. Or do I just slap it on?

A lot of my advice lies in the rambling I wrote at my site. But, you should know to clean install.

Yeah, if you get a video card, then just get WinXP OEM if you don't want the extra steps mentioned in the previous post.

Tell me how it goes...
