A friend who just bought one says it will record MP3 only up to 128k and
WAV at a maximum samplerate of 32 kHz.

It sure plays back a heckuvalot of formats, though...

Not bad! SNR is a little less than the NJB3, the color LCD is nice and
so is the ability to record to FLAC.....but the lack of digital in hurts
a lot, so does the useless features like the ability to display
video/pics/txt....for the purposes of taping alone, I'd rather go with
the NJB3, or even better, a modded PMD660, R1 or MicroTrack2496. Cool
find tho.

I've come up with the perfect solution for my need, news interviews
and clips in the field.
It's Creative's Muvo n200 (in Canada) or Zen Nano Plus (in the US)
I gig flash memory, line in that converts the audio to MP3 with
adjustable bit rate.
I use an old Shure SM82 line level out mic.
It's mono in this form but you could get stereo with two mics.
The SM82 is not the smallest mic around but it'sgreat for hand held
interviews.
And if the "interviewee" is un-co operative, you can bop him or her
with the mic.
The "unobtainium" mercury battery for the SM82 has been replaced with
a cell available from Battery Mart.com.
It's part number BAT A177.
Files can be downloaded by USB or even analogue through the Muvo's
headphone jack.
Works for me.
The Muvo was under $200 Canadian.
The mic was already lying around and the battery for the mic is $5 US.
Works for me!
