MS-DOS compatibilty mode

Hi,

For no apparent reason, my floppy drive is no longer working in Windows 98. If I try to access it at all my OS freezes. I have checked the properties and everything appears fine except for the following message: "Drive A is using MS-DOS compatibility mode file system." I have tried Microsoft's suggestion of disabling the drive in the hardware profile and also removing the FD controller and redetecting the drive but this makes no difference at all. I have also checked to see if I have a missing HSFLOP.PDR file but that is fine too.

The drive works fine in DOS mode and also in Windows safe mode, it is just in Windows 98 full mode when it won't work.

Any help would be much appreciated. Many thanks in advance.

Glenn :-)

Sounds like a driver problem.

i'd test out the system with another floppy drive, though it might simply be due to the chipset drivers... you can always uninstall and reinstall the floppy drive-chipset controller, or even update the motherboard's driver set
