Hdd problems

Ok a friend of mine is using an IBM personal computer 300 pl 128 mb ram and a p3 the hard drive is 20 gb maxtor i belive, ik so this is the problem.... the computer decided that the hard drive isnt there any more and the hard drive still functions and everything i have switch cables and tried to isolate it, however the drive will work in another computer but not this one, any ideas how to fix it?

Sounds like the IDE controller on the board has given up.

And just in case not, borrow a good cable and drive to test and see what happens.
