Hey everyone,
I've got a problem with my 002. I press the power on, and the only
thing that happens is the mute button/light is on and Pro Tools can't
see it. It works some of the time but doesn't right now. It's almost
like it needs to be reset or something. Can somebody help me? I've
checked Answerbase on the digidesign website and can't find anything.

There's a well documented ribbon cable/power supply issue that Digi will
fix - or send you a kit to DIY - it's easy to fix - call Digi and they'll
send you what you need.

The thing is, it powers up everytime I push the button. It just
automatically goes to mute and won't be recognized by Pro Tools.
I hope you have the answer for me.
Thanks

The 002 not being recognized is a symptom of the ribbon/PS issue,
although ours turned out to have blown its firewire port. When this
happens, the "About this Mac" firewire info says "no info available",
and then when you disconnect it it says "Apple Firewire - Speed 400",
or whatever it will say.

But the acknolwedged ribbon/PS issue doesn't result in a unit that
won't power up, so it's a little confusing at first, but Digi, unlike
Apple, has been extremely upfront and quick to act and solve the
problem. it was a hardware design or manufacture f-up, but they
deserve praise for the speedy way they handled it. The fix is free,
if I remember correctly, and they send it to you ASAP.

The 002 ALWAYS come up with the mute on. Hit the button and turn it off.

If the computer is not recognizing the 002, it's either a bad Firewire cable
or maybe you have another Firewire device plugged into the computer.

If neither, it's the power cable and Digi will fix it or send you a new one
so you can fix it.

When the 002 is turned on by its power switch it's default state after
checking firmware is
to have the mute on. So this seems normal.

As for Pro tools not "seeing" the 002.
When you launch pro tools it doesn't auto-load a session for you. You
just see a pro tools drop down and a file drop down in the top left
corner from which you can then choose "new" or "open" session.

So when you turn on the 002 and boot pro tools, if everything is
normal, the 002 will be in mute mode and you will have the option to
load or creat a session. Also, the 002 tells you to "Open or create a
new session" in the led of the scribble scrip!

If the above items solved this for you you mush not have read the the
getting started guide.

If this isn't happening for you then you probably have a unit with the
bad wiring harness which is an easy fix via Digi customer support.

Best of luck either way,
Chris,

If you have the common issue with the 002, it will power up but when
you boot PTools you'll get an alert saying it can't locate the
interface, even though it's attached.

Sounds like a 1394 firewire port problem. Probably a bad PHY Chips is the problem. Thats the chip closer to the firewire port.
